Colors in a Bag

Fellow Bagaholics it is almost spring time and that means COLORS!!!!

I would like to introduce you to a FABULOUS bag designer, whose latest collection includes a delicious range of colors, perfect for Spring 2012.

Mary Nichols is a native Houstonian who at a very early age has been driven by her artistic abilities. She attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, achieving her BFA in studio art with a concentration in painting and photography – and continued her creative education at the prestigious Parsons The New School for Design in New York City, where she completed the AAS degree in fashion studies. Upon graduation, she pursued a career in fashion and worked in New York at fashion hubs Theory and Calvin Klein.

Mary returned to our fabulous city of Houston in 2008, where she launched her first collection.  Her line of modern totes and clutches are inspired by city living. Each bag is constructed from the finest quality leather and handmade in NYC.

Professional Wardrobe Help:

First of all congratulations on your recent life achievements!  This is a very exciting time and of course looking fabulous is a must

Here are a few items that are essential on everyone wardrobe because of their functionality and of course they would never go out of style.  The best part about this is that you can mix and match many if this items and create different outfits.

A basic black dress– Try to find a style and cut that would flatter your body. Also look for versatility; the dress can look amazing over a blazer for the office or with a fabulous pair of pumps for cocktails.

Blazer– As I mention before a blazer can dress up a fabulous LBD but that is not all. A fabulous flazer can be one of the best investments you ever made. It can create a power suit,  dress up a basic t-shirt and jeans. A well fitted jacket should follow the silhouette of a woman’s body and accent the hourglass curve at her waist.

Dress Pants– A very important part of a power suit! Find neutral colors like black and gray.

Skirt– A skirt is a feminine option to the dress pants and can be flirty or businesslike.

Classic Shirt– A white bottom down shirt is the obvious choice for this but look for one that accentuates your best attributes and minimizes trouble spots. For example, if you have wide shoulders, stay away from large collars.

Any Occasion Top– Look for something that can look great inside a jacket, or by itself (like stripes).

A day dress-Dresses are my favorite thing to wear during the hot months ( that in Houston can be like 10 lol) A good cotton dress can be a great option to run errands or  to have lunch.

Hope I was able to help!

Our New Prada

First it was Miu Miu and now Prada open its door at the Houston Galleria ( yes we are very lucky!)

The boutique, designed by Architect Roberto Baciocchi, occupies about 470 square meters on a single level, and it carries the ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and footwear collections for both women and men.

The store is located in a prestigious corner position highlighted by its entrance, inserted in a precious black marble façade. The outside is also marked by a second entrance and by alternating windows and light boxes, framed in polished steel profiles.

The inside is subdivided in four polygonal rooms, defined by the elements that mark Prada’s brand identity worldwide, such as walls covered in pale green cloth and a black and white chequered marble floor at the entrance, alternating with beige carpet.

The women’s collections area is especially elegant thanks to its large smoky mirrors, to the soft hues of saffiano leather in cera colour, and to the precious polished steel and crystal display counters.

The men’s collections are displayed in an environment covered in rosewood and furnished with castorino-coloured velvet sofas and black and crystal counters.

New Year, New Adventures

Happy year of the Dragon fashionistas!

Obviously I love fashion, but right now, I am basically a girl cheering from the stands. I don’t have a fashion related degree, or true fashion experience. All my knowledge of fashion comes from books, magazines and basically my passion for the art of fashion.

That is why this year I decided to learn more about what goes behind the scenes. The people at Atrium RTW / Casa de Novia were very kind to open there door for me to learn more about what really goes behind fashion merchandising.

Atrium RTW is a cozy boutique located inside Casa de Novia. The beautiful 500 square-feet show room is beautifully decorated is a romantic French style with modern touches and beautiful white chandeliers. When you are inside you never want to leave, it is like a dream.

And what about the cloths you may ask; Well Atrium RTW offers as close to couture as possible,  from cocktail and eveningwear along with select casual pieces. A few of the designers that you can find are Prabal Gurung, Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Angel Sanchez, and Yigal Azrouel among others.

(On a side note, earlier last year I had the opportunity to meet Prabal Gurung, while making an appearance at Atrium RTW … yeah I KNOW!!!)

The best part (and one of the major reasons why I wanted to be part of Atrium RTW) is because they offer the finest in elite labels but at the same time you get an individualized and extremely friendly shopping experience!

I can’t wait to share with you my experiences on my new adventure! Please feel free to stop by Atrium RTW any time and see the amazing pieces. Oh and if you got engage during the New Year, you so need to stop by Casa de Novia! They have the most AMAZING gowns!

Just a Tiny More Lady Chic

Between all this 60’s inspired shows (Mad Men and Pan Am) and well the new Duchess of Cambridge many of us want to look a bit more polish. Here are some tips to look just a tiny more lady like;

  • Update your wardrobe; look for more feminine silhouettes. When wearing patterns make sure they flatter your body. A good fitted blazer is perfect to polish any casual look.
  • When buying accessories always invest in timeless rather than trendy. Structure bags give an elegant look. Think belts and leather gloves are fabulous accessories for this winter!
  • A frizz-free hair can give you an effortless and elegant look. If you are like me and not very good at blow-drying your hair, you can always schedule a professional blow dry. Here in Houston we have the fabulous Do bar!
  • ALWAYS have a manicure!
  • Be aware of your pose, there is nothing worst that I women who does not stand straight.

Miu Miu HEARTS Houston
